Tightening Large caps, greater than 80 mm in diameter.
Tightening Large Caps - When we discuss large caps we are in general referring to caps from 80mm - 130mm in diameter. Large caps require a great deal of application torque. There are two challenges when dealing with large caps. First, you need a machine that can generate the torque required to tighten a large cap. Second and more importantly, that machine should be ergonomically designed so that the high amount of torque generated during the capping process is not transmitted to the operator.
Three of our capping machines have been specifically engineered to work with large caps; they are listed below.

SA-2000 Series Bench-Top Capping Machine - Our 2000 Series Bench-Top Capping Machine has been specifically designed to tighten large caps. The power unit incorporates a powerful pneumatic motor coupled with a high gear ratio and low RPM that produces the output torque necessary to close large caps with ease and precision. The SA 2000 not only has the power to tighten large caps, but it does so with very high torque accuracy and precision.
We designed the SA Capping Machine to eliminate the strain and fatigue
associated with tightening large caps. The operator places the container
to be capped into the V-Block (bottle
centering device) and onto the
Anti-Rotation
Base of the SA Capping Machine. The Anti-Rotation
Base has a very high friction rubber surface which helps prevent
the container from rotating while it is being capped. This makes holding
the container while it is being capped strain free. The result is a machine
that is very ergonomic.
PS-300 Power Cap™ - A pneumatic hand held capper that is ideal for use with large caps. The PS-300 has a wide torque range, from 14-110 inch.lbs. It has the power to deal with your large caps, and still tighten caps as small as 22 mm. We can modify a PS-300 to work with smaller cap ranges and lower torque ranges as well.
The PS-300 Power Cap™ should be paired with our KST-100 when the machine will be used to tighten large caps. Large caps require a lot of application torque to close properly. A hand held capping machine becomes very difficult and fatiguing to hold in these high torque applications. The Kinex Torque Stabilizing Arm (KST-100) holds the PS-300 still so the operator does not have to. It eliminates 100% of the twisting torque generated during the capping process, protecting the operators fingers, hands, wrists and arms from repetitive strain.
Kinetic Series Cappers - Our SWDP-16 and SWTE-16 Two Speed Kinetic Cappers are very well suited to tighten large caps. Powered by a fractional horsepower AC motor, these capping machines are strong and fast, delivering a torque range of 4-100 inch.lbs.
Kinetic Series Cappers are also a very ergonomic solution for large caps as the twisting torque generated during the capping process with large caps is absorbed through the suspension system of the machine, and not transferred to the operator.
While Kinetic Series Capping Machines are very fast and very ergonomic, they do not offer the excellent torque accuracy and repeatability of the SA-2000 and PS-300. If all you need is a good tight cap, the Kinetic Series is an excellent option for you. If your application calls for greater torque accuracy and you need to meet specific torque specifications, the SA-2000 and PS-300 are the superior choice.
