Capping in a Clean, Sterile or Controlled Environment
Capping in a clean or controlled environment introduces many restrictions on the type of capping equipment and accessories that are suitable for use in these environments. For example the compressed air exhaust of a lubricated pneumatic motor is not allowable in a controlled environment. Chuck insert wear (rubber or urethane particulate) is frequently prohibited in many controlled environments. The materials from which a capping machine and its accessories are constructed can also be limiting factors. These are just a few examples of the potential restraints present when trying to introduce a capping machine into a controlled environment. Below are some of the solutions we provide when dealing with customers who need capping machines and accessories suitable for use in a controlled environment.
Oil Free Pneumatic Motors - As an option, any of our PS Series and SA Series Pneumatic Capping Machines can be fit with an oil free pneumatic motor. Just as the name suggests, our Oil-Free Pneumatic Motors do not require lubrication. Many labs cannot use a regular pneumatic motor because they emit minute particles of lubrication in their exhaust. Because our oil free motors require no lubrication, the exhaust is as clean as the compressed air going into it.g
Direct Discharge™ - We can also fit our PS and SA Capping Machines with our Direct Discharge™ option. Direct Discharge™ is an additional port which we can install on our pneumatic motors that directs the exhaust air of the pneumatic motor directly into an exhaust air hose. The compressed air exhaust is then funneled through the hose to where it can be exhausted safely without adversely effecting the clean environment.
An alternative to running the exhaust air hose out of the controlled environment is to place a filter at the end of the exhaust air hose which will remove the particles of lubrication from the exhaust air before the exhaust air is re-circulated into the environment.

Because our oil free motors require no lubrication, the exhaust air is as dry as the compressed air going into it.
Liner-Less Chucks - A traditional urethane or white rubber liner (chuck insert) can leave slight particulate residue during the capping process. This particulate may not be allowed in certain clean, sterile or controlled environments. In such cases we can custom build a mechanical or molded chuck which does not require a friction chuck insert to tighten the cap and eliminates the problem of friction insert particulate.
